State Police Start Holiday Weekend Off With 66 Arrests In 3 Hours


Virginia State Police, Kentucky State Police, Wise County Sheriff’s Office and the Letcher County, Ky., Sheriff’s Office kicked off September and the Labor Day weekend with a Drive to Save Lives traffic safety operation. The state and local law enforcement conducted a joint enforcement project on U.S. Route 23 at the Virginia/Kentucky line from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016.

During the 4-hour traffic safety checkpoint, troopers and deputies issued a total of 66 summonses and arrested four drivers for DUI. The 66 summonses ranged from speeding to seatbelt violations to unsafe vehicle equipment.
