There have been numerous instances throughout the country where individuals have been robbed, assaulted, etc. while attempting to make a purchase or sale involving someone they do not know or during child custody exchanges. In an effort to reduce the likelihood of this type of criminal behavior from occurring and providing a safer location for these types of interactions, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office has recently created 3 parking spaces in front of the Henry County Sheriff’s Office. These spaces are recorded 24/7. While facing the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, the parking spaces are to the right and marked with yellow paint. These spaces are also marked “SWAP ZONE” in yellow paint. More details can be found at http://www.henrycountyva.gov/swap regarding what types of items can and cannot be exchanged at this location. The City of Martinsville has similar spaces located near the Martinsville Sheriff’s Office and Martinsville Police Department. While these spaces do not completely ensure your interaction will be conducted safely, it does afford the opportunity for the interaction to be recorded.
