Increased fire danger east of the Blue Ridge this afternoon

According to a statement from the National Weather Service, the combination of gusty winds and drier air moving in will create conditions favoring enhanced fire growth this afternoon. Any outdoor burning is strongly discouraged today.

Virginia residents are reminded that outdoor burning is prohibited before 4 pm each day through April 30th. Exercise caution handling any potential ignition source, including machinery, cigarettes, and matches. Be sure to properly discard all smoking materials.
Any dry grasses and tree litter that ignite will have the potential to spread quickly.

The forecast calls for wind gusts up to 30 mph today with a high of 61. Low tonight of 34 with winds topping 11 mph. Friday will be sunny and 64 with winds at 10 mph. Winds will calm down Friday night with a low of 34 and Saturday should be sunny, 66, and calm.
